Happy New Year everyone! I’ll admit I’ve been a bit slack on the blogging front over the past year, so one of my goals for 2018 is to get back on top of it again! I actually ended up drafting race reports for most of the events I did throughout 2017, but never got around to finishing them off and publishing them, so I’ll aim to post these retrospectively over the coming weeks.
2017 was a blast! Despite a niggling knee injury at the start of the year, I kick started my season with the Lanzarote 4 Day Stage Race in February, before travelling around the UK participating in the excellent Scott Marathon Series, fitting in local races where possible. July saw the return of TwentyFour12 to Newnham Park in which I raced the 12hr Solo category, but biblical rain and horrendous course conditions caused too many problems and resulted in the disappointment of an early retirement after three and a half hours – I have a separate post on this in the works!
Training for 2018 has been going well so far, starting a bit earlier than previous years. I’ve been seeing some promising improvements in performance in recent races and training sessions and hopefully this will continue into the season. So far, Battle on the Beach and TwentyFour12 12hr Solo are booked and on the race calendar, and I’ll be aiming to head to most of the Scott Marathon Series and South West XC Series. I hadn’t had intentions of racing the National Series this year and chasing points, however as time goes on I’m beginning to get the urge to have another stab at it! I’m going to see how well some of the lower-key pre-season races go and make the decision from there.
With that, have an epic 2018 on two wheels everyone, and see you on the roads and trails!
